Ed Frigo Obituary

Ed Frigo—never Edward, and certainly not Eddie (except when it came from his sister) —passed away on February 26, 2026. Born in Torrington, Connecticut, to the late Adelina and Stefano Frigo, Ed was a proud lifelong resident of Torrington until 2023. He was a graduate of Torrington High School, class of 1963. A proud Army veteran, Ed served his country at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, as a cook. He was the owner of Frigo’s House of Cheese and Ed Frigo’s Deli, and later worked at Marandino’s and Price Chopper. Ed was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of St. Peter’s Church in Torrington. Ed was, at heart, a simple man. He didn’t need much to be happy: a trip out for ice cream, an afternoon watching the Game Show Network, cheering on UConn Huskies basketball, or listening—loudly and proudly—to The Beach Boys. He adored his grandpuppy Apollo (whom he affectionately—and persistently—called “Obama”) and happily claimed him as his own. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ellen. He is also survived by his daughter, Teresa Poteat (Michael); his son, Philip (Shawna Audibert); his granddaughter, Elizabeth Hoiberg (Christian); and his grandsons, Dylan, Tyler, and Jamie Frigo. He is further survived by his sister, Mary Lach; his brothers, David Frigo (Marlene) and Art Frigo (Monica Vonglahn); his sister-in-law, Carol Hanauer (Greg); and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by his sister, Angela Romanczuk; and his brothers, Robert and Richard. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Bear Mountain/Vantage West Springfield, especially Betsy and Nelson (aka Joe), for their compassionate care. Deep gratitude is also given to Hospice of Western & Central Massachusetts, particularly Janet, Monica, Mark, and Emily, whose kindness and support over the past year meant more than words can express. Calling hours will be held on Thursday March 5th from 10 am till 11 am at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA. A Mass will follow at 11:30 am in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Road, Westfield. Burial will follow in the Agawam Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. Donations in memory of Ed may be made to a charity of your choice. Firtionadams.com
